MLB proposes season structure changes and playoff expansion amid salary cap negotiations

Major League Baseball has proposed reducing the regular season to 154 games and expanding the Division Series to a best-of-seven format, starting in 2029. This proposal is reportedly connected to the league's push for a salary cap, which the MLB Players' Association has historically opposed. The changes aim to add off days and allow higher-seeded teams to pick opponents in early playoff rounds.
