Seven Dutch provinces unite to strengthen cybersecurity under new EU rules
Seven Dutch provinces, including Drenthe, Flevoland, Friesland, Limburg, Overijssel, Utrecht, and Zeeland, are establishing a joint digital security center. This initiative aims to enhance protection against cyber threats and ensure compliance with new EU cybersecurity regulations. Each participating province will contribute up to 500,000 euros annually to fund a shared Security Operations Center (SOC), which will continuously monitor IT systems, detect threats, and respond to incidents. The move is particularly timely as the Netherlands faces potential legal action from the European Commission for delays in implementing a new cybersecurity law, which mandates over 8,000 organizations to report cyber incidents within 24 hours.
