Chinese President Xi Jinping Launches World Artificial Intelligence Cooperation Organization (WAICO)

During his first keynote at the World AI Conference in Shanghai on July 17, Chinese President Xi Jinping announced the formation of the World Artificial Intelligence Cooperation Organization (WAICO). This new intergovernmental body, headquartered in Shanghai, includes 29 founding countries such as Pakistan, Russia, and Kazakhstan. Xi emphasized AI development as a global cooperative effort, advocating for equitable access and a balance between innovation and security, while also criticizing the 'overstretching' of national security concerns by some nations.
