India Approves Semicon India Programme 2.0 with ₹1.27 Trillion Outlay to Boost Semiconductor Ecosystem

The Union Cabinet has approved the Semicon India Programme 2.0, allocating ₹1.27 trillion (approximately $15.2 billion USD) to significantly expand the country's semiconductor manufacturing and design capabilities. This new phase builds on the initial ₹76,000 crore program launched in 2021, aiming to develop a comprehensive semiconductor ecosystem that includes chip design, fabrication, advanced packaging, equipment, materials, research, and talent development. The initiative seeks to establish India as a globally competitive hub in the semiconductor industry.
