Microsoft has confirmed that a network maintenance error was responsible for the significant Azure outage in its West US region on July 23rd. A bug in the request conversion system mistakenly flagged additional devices for maintenance, leading to the removal of IP routes. This disruption impacted traffic for nearly five hours, affecting services entering or exiting the region.
