SK hynix and Sandisk Unveil First High Bandwidth Flash (HBF) Standard to Address AI Memory Bottlenecks

SK hynix, in collaboration with Sandisk, has announced the first standard specifications for High Bandwidth Flash (HBF) through the Open Compute Project (OCP). This next-generation storage technology aims to overcome memory bottlenecks in the AI era by providing high-speed data transfer similar to HBM while significantly expanding capacity using NAND technology. The specification supports up to 512GB and 3TB/s bandwidth, includes UCIe support, and features a 375-layer 4D NAND that is 2.5 times more power efficient. Google and Tenstorrent are already part of the HBF consortium.
