Lockheed Martin Skunk Works Demonstrates Sensor-Powered AI Fighter Intercept on X-62 VISTA
Lockheed Martin Skunk Works, in partnership with the U.S. Air Force Test Pilot School, has successfully demonstrated sensor-driven autonomy on a fighter aircraft. An AI agent on the X-62 Variable In-flight Simulation Test Aircraft (VISTA) used real-time targeting information from an operational sensor to execute 27 successful air intercepts against a live target across eight flights. This advancement moves AI testing from simulated data to real-world sensor streams, enhancing pilot survivability by delegating complex tasks to AI.
