SK hynix and SanDisk Unveil High Bandwidth Flash (HBF) Standard to Address AI Memory Bottlenecks

SK hynix and SanDisk have unveiled the first High Bandwidth Flash (HBF) standard specifications, supported by Google DeepMind and Tenstorrent. This new memory tier, positioned between HBM and SSDs, aims to challenge AI memory bottlenecks by offering capacities up to 512GB and bandwidths from 0.4TB/s to 3.0TB/s. The specification, disclosed through the Open Compute Project (OCP), adopts the UCIe interconnect for broad processor integration.
