Lockheed Martin Skunk Works Demonstrates Sensor-Powered AI for Fighter Aircraft Intercepts

Lockheed Martin Skunk Works, in collaboration with the U.S. Air Force Test Pilot School and industry partners, has successfully demonstrated sensor-driven autonomy on a fighter aircraft. An AI agent utilized targeting information from an operational sensor to execute 27 successful air intercepts against a live target across eight flights of the X-62 Variable In-flight Simulation Test Aircraft (VISTA). This achievement marks a significant advance in AI-augmented air dominance, moving AI testing from simulated data to real-time, on-board sensor streams.
