NIST Achieves Breakthrough in Quantum Network Development, Successfully Transmitting Entangled Photons 62 Kilometers Through Commercial Fiber

Researchers from the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) and collaborators have successfully sent entangled photons through 62 kilometers (about 38.5 miles) of commercial fiber-optic infrastructure. This achievement marks a significant step toward building a real-world quantum network, which could enable ultrasecure communications, supercharge scientific research, and boost the power of future quantum computers.
