SK Hynix Approves $38 Billion Investment for Yongin and Cheongju Chip Plants to Boost AI Memory Production

South Korean semiconductor giant SK Hynix has greenlit a substantial investment of approximately 54.3 trillion won ($38.30 billion) through 2031. This funding is primarily allocated for the second phase of its chip fabrication plant in Yongin and the M17 chip plant in Cheongju. The Yongin 'Y2 fab' is intended to be a key production base for dynamic random access memory (DRAM) chips, including high-bandwidth memory (HBM) and other next-generation DRAM products, which are critical components for AI servers.
