SK hynix has approved a substantial investment of approximately 54 trillion won (around $40 billion USD) to build new memory fabrication plants in Yongin and Cheongju, South Korea. This strategic move aims to address the continuously growing demand for memory in the AI era, with the Yongin 'Y2' fab focusing on high-bandwidth memory (HBM) and other next-generation DRAM products, targeting its first cleanroom opening in June 2029.
