SK hynix to Invest $38.1 Billion in New AI Memory Chip Plants

South Korean chipmaker SK hynix announced plans to invest approximately 54 trillion won ($38.1 billion) to construct two new memory chip manufacturing plants, Yongin Y2 and Cheongju M17. This significant investment aims to address the continuously growing demand for high-bandwidth memory (HBM) and other next-generation DRAM products, driven by the expanding artificial intelligence (AI) market. The company views this demand growth as a structural transformation where memory becomes core infrastructure for AI performance.
