SK Hynix Approves $38 Billion Investment for New AI Memory Chip Fabrication Facilities in South Korea

South Korean memory chipmaker SK Hynix Inc. has approved a 54.3 trillion won (approximately $38.15 billion) investment to construct two new semiconductor fabrication facilities in South Korea. The Yongin 'Y2' fab will focus on DRAM for high-bandwidth memory (HBM) and next-generation DRAM, crucial for AI accelerators, while the Cheongju 'M17' fab will produce NAND memory and enterprise solid-state drives (SSDs) for AI workloads.
