SK Hynix to Invest $38 Billion in New Memory Chip Plants to Meet AI Demand

SK Hynix plans a significant investment of 54 trillion won ($38 billion) to construct two new memory chip fabrication plants in South Korea. This expansion aims to double the company's production capacity for DRAM and NAND chips, addressing the surging demand driven by artificial intelligence and easing a global memory chip shortage. The new facilities, a DRAM plant (Y2) in Yongin and a NAND plant (M17) in Cheongju, are expected to begin production in 2029 and beyond.
