Sony and TSMC Form $4.7 Billion Joint Venture for Next-Generation Image Sensor Manufacturing in Japan

Sony Semiconductor Solutions and Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) have finalized an agreement to establish Advanced Vision Semiconductor Manufacturing Corporation, a joint venture in Koshi City, Kumamoto Prefecture, Japan. With a total investment of approximately $4.7 billion, the JV will focus on developing and manufacturing next-generation image sensors for smartphones using advanced process technology, with volume production expected to commence in 2029. Sony will be the controlling shareholder.
