TSMC and Sony Form $4.7 Billion Joint Venture for Next-Generation Image Sensors
Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co (TSMC) and Sony Semiconductor Solutions Corp are investing a combined $4.7 billion in a new joint venture, Advanced Vision Semiconductor Manufacturing Corp, to produce next-generation image sensors for smartphones in Japan. The venture, with Sony holding 60% and TSMC 40%, is expected to commence volume production in 2029 in Koshi City, Kumamoto Prefecture. This alliance aims to address a stagnant smartphone market and rising competition.
