TSMC and Sony establish $4.7 billion joint venture for image sensors

TSMC and Sony Semiconductor Solutions Corp. are forming a $4.7 billion joint venture, Advanced Vision Semiconductor Manufacturing Corp., to develop and produce next-generation image sensors for smartphones in Japan. Sony will hold 60% and TSMC 40% ownership, with volume production expected by 2029 in Kumamoto Prefecture. This collaboration aims to combine Sony's design expertise with TSMC's manufacturing technology to innovate in a competitive smartphone market.
