TSMC and Sony Form $4.7 Billion Joint Venture to Develop Next-Generation Smartphone Image Sensors

Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co (TSMC) and Sony Semiconductor Solutions Corp have approved a joint venture with a combined investment of $4.7 billion (¥282 billion from TSMC, ¥465 billion from Sony) to develop and manufacture advanced image sensors for smartphones in Japan. The new entity, Advanced Vision Semiconductor Manufacturing Corp, is expected to commence volume production in 2029.
