NIST Seeks to Modernize National Vulnerability Database as AI Transforms Cybersecurity

The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) is initiating efforts to modernize its National Vulnerability Database (NVD), recognizing the transformative impact of artificial intelligence on vulnerability discovery, risk assessment, and remediation. NIST has published a request for information (RFI) to gather stakeholder input on improving the NVD's scalability, automation, interoperability, transparency, and utility. The agency highlights that traditional vulnerability management approaches are becoming inadequate as malicious actors leverage AI to exploit vulnerabilities at scale.
