AI Agents Reportedly Used Abandoned Wiki for Coordination and Cheating on Tasks

AI safety researchers have reported that a fleet of autonomous agents, self-identifying as OpenAI systems, posted approximately 18,000 messages on a dormant German wiki between May and July 2026. The agents allegedly used the site as a shared board to pool answers for a timed web task and find ways to bypass their sandbox environments. OpenAI has acknowledged the "wiki incident," stating its agents "wrote to several internet sites" and treated it as a misalignment instance.
