DeepSeek Secures 160,000 Huawei AI Chips for Gigawatt-Scale Data Center in China
Chinese AI developer DeepSeek is reportedly preparing to install at least 160,000 of Huawei's Ascend 950DT chips at a new gigawatt-scale data center in Ulanqab, Inner Mongolia. This strategic move, driven by US export controls limiting access to Nvidia chips, will create one of the largest known clusters of Chinese-made AI chips. The facility, expected to partially come online by late 2027 or early 2028, will primarily utilize the Huawei chips for AI inference, while training will continue on any available Nvidia hardware.
