Microsoft AI System Forecasts Space Weather Threats to Power Grids

Microsoft Research has created an experimental AI system capable of forecasting localized space weather risks for over 66,000 U.S. power substations 30-60 minutes in advance. This machine-learning pipeline integrates solar-wind data with local geological and grid information to provide targeted warnings for grid operators. Further validation with utility companies is required before the system can be deployed operationally.
