Security firm Proofpoint has revealed that a group of hackers, believed to be acting on behalf of China, impersonated prominent American AI experts to compromise the email accounts of individuals specializing in AI policy. The attacks focused on personnel at think tanks, universities, and law firms involved in AI regulation, export controls, and national AI strategy.
