The FBI has confirmed that the breach of its FBIjobs.gov hiring portal, attributed to the ShinyHunters extortion group, was caused by a third-party contractor's failure to install a previously issued security patch. The incident, discovered in late September 2026, exposed personal information of thousands of FBI employees. The FBI has since removed the responsible contractor.
