NEC Introduces New AI Models for Rapid Disaster Damage Assessment

NEC Corporation has unveiled two new Vision-Language Model (VLM) technologies, 'VLM-based Local Region Understanding' and 'Continual Learning for VLMs.' These innovations are designed to precisely identify small-scale damage in disaster site images and allow for continuous updates with new damage criteria. This development is projected to significantly reduce disaster assessment times from approximately seven hours to under one hour, enhancing response efficiency.
