Microsoft Begins Limiting Onboarding for Retiring Azure Communication Services

Microsoft has commenced the process of limiting onboarding for its retiring Azure Communication Services, effective today, October 23, 2026. This policy change, initially announced on September 23, 2026, reflects Microsoft's strategy to integrate communication experiences more deeply within its core platforms like Teams and Dynamics 365, while collaborating with Communications Platform as a Service (CPaaS) providers for other Azure customers. New customers will be unable to acquire phone numbers for retiring telephony workloads, including PSTN calling and SMS.
