White House Rolls Out NSPM-12 to Enhance Cybersecurity Governance for National Security Systems

The White House has issued National Security Presidential Memorandum 12 (NSPM-12), establishing a new cybersecurity governance framework for National Security Systems (NSS), which include military, intelligence, and other federal systems handling classified information. The memorandum re-establishes the Committee on National Security Systems (CNSS) and designates the National Security Agency (NSA) as the National Manager for NSS cybersecurity, granting it expanded authority to assess security posture, issue emergency directives, and coordinate government-wide cyber defense activities.
