New Federal Legislation Seeks to End Birthright Citizenship in U.S. Territories

Following a recent Supreme Court decision upholding the constitutional principle of birthright citizenship, new federal legislation, H.R. 9724, has been introduced by Rep. Morgan Griffith (R-VA 9). The 'End Birthright Citizenship for Territories Act' aims to amend federal statutes to end the guarantee of U.S. citizenship for individuals born in Puerto Rico, Guam, the U.S. Virgin Islands, and the Northern Mariana Islands on or after January 1, 2027.
