USDA Announces Phased Reopening of Southern Ports for Livestock Trade

The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) has announced a coordinated, phased reopening of southern cattle ports, contingent on Mexico's adherence to a Joint Action Plan. Beginning August 24, 2026, the Douglas, AZ port of entry will open to cattle trade, with subsequent openings planned for Santa Teresa, NM, and Columbus, NM, ports. This decision aims to resume livestock movement after a year-long closure to control the spread of New World screwworm.
