FAA Announces Major Initiative to Streamline Commercial Space Licensing, Waiving Environmental Regulations

U.S. Transportation Secretary Sean P. Duffy announced that the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is launching a new initiative to streamline commercial space licensing. This move aims to make it faster and easier for innovators to secure approvals for launching rockets, reentering spacecraft, and operating launch and reentry sites. The proposed rule would allow the FAA to waive unnecessary environmental laws and regulations, such as parts of NEPA, the Endangered Species Act, and the Clean Water Act, while maintaining protections for public health, safety, property, national security, and U.S. foreign policy interests.
