FAA Launches Initiative to Streamline Commercial Space Licensing by Waiving Environmental Regulations

U.S. Transportation Secretary Sean P. Duffy announced that the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is initiating a new program to streamline commercial space licensing. The proposed rule would allow the FAA to waive requirements from 13 federal environmental and natural resource laws, including parts of NEPA, the Endangered Species Act, and the Clean Water Act, for certain commercial space licenses and permits. This move aims to expedite approvals for rocket launches, spacecraft reentries, and the operation of launch and reentry sites, building on President Trump's executive order to enhance competition in the commercial space industry.
