Federal Agencies Warn of "Significant Escalation" in Cyberattacks Targeting U.S. Water Utilities

The FBI and Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) issued a warning about a "significant escalation" of cyberattacks on drinking and wastewater treatment facilities in multiple states. Hackers have reportedly locked operators out of their systems, modified passwords, and changed IP addresses, forcing some utilities to issue boil-water notices and revert to manual operations.
