FAA Proposes Sweeping Environmental Waivers to Boost Commercial Space Industry

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has published a notice of proposed rulemaking that would waive requirements under 13 statutes, primarily environmental laws, for commercial space licenses, permits, and launch and reentry site operations or development. This proposal directly responds to an August 2025 Executive Order aimed at streamlining approval processes and significantly increasing U.S. commercial space launch cadence and novel space activities by 2030.
