Department of State Establishes Permanent Visa Bond Program

The Department of State has finalized a rule establishing a permanent Visa Bond Program, effective August 3, 2026. This program authorizes consular officers to require a bond of up to $20,000 from certain B-1/B-2 visa applicants to ensure they maintain nonimmigrant status and depart the U.S. as required. This final rule makes permanent a pilot program launched in August 2025.
