FCC Sets Comment Dates for Proposed Modernization of Emergency Alert Systems

The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) announced comment and reply comment due dates for proposed modernizations to the Emergency Alert System (EAS) and Wireless Emergency Alerts (WEA). These proposals include adding symbols to alerts for rapid identification of emergency types and incorporating text-to-speech technology for earthquake and other alerts to expedite protective actions.
