Supreme Court Ruling in Louisiana v. Callais Weakens Voting Rights Act

The Supreme Court recently issued a ruling in Louisiana v. Callais that significantly weakened Section 2 of the Voting Rights Act, which allows ordinary Americans to challenge discriminatory voting systems. Justice Kagan, in a dissenting opinion, stated that the ruling renders Section 2 "all but a dead letter." This decision comes on the 61st anniversary of President Lyndon B. Johnson signing the Voting Rights Act.
