HHS Proposes Head Start Reforms to Expand Access and Reduce Administrative Burden

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) announced a new proposed rule for Head Start programs on August 6, 2026, titled 'Reducing Federal Burden for Head Start Programs.' This reform aims to expand access, reduce regulatory burden and administrative costs, and is projected to preserve or expand up to 236,000 Head Start slots nationwide while saving $2.2 billion.
