Senate Works to Pass Stopgap Funding, Sanctions Bill, and Confirm Key Nominees Before August Recess

The U.S. Senate is making a final push to finalize key legislative actions before its five-week August recess, including efforts to pass a stopgap funding bill to extend government funding until December 11 and a bill to impose sanctions on buyers of Russian oil and gas. Additionally, the Senate confirmed Todd Blanche as Attorney General and Lt. Gen. Doug Schiess as the third-ever chief of space operations. Erica Schwartz was also confirmed as the new director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
