U.S. Department of Transportation Announces $5.3 Billion Investment in Rail Safety Upgrades and New Amtrak Train Sets

U.S. Transportation Secretary Sean P. Duffy announced a $5.3 billion investment by the Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) into rail projects across the country. The funding aims to enhance safety, upgrade critical infrastructure, and purchase 43 new "Made-in-America" trainsets for Amtrak. Approximately $2 billion of this package was reportedly saved from the cancellation of California's high-speed rail project. The initiative includes closing over 30 grade crossings, upgrading thousands more, and overhauling 41 Amtrak locomotives.
