EPA Marks Two Cleanup Milestones and Announces Public Meeting for Kerr-McGee Superfund Site in Navassa, NC

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Region 4 has announced significant progress in the cleanup and revitalization of the Kerr-McGee Chemical Corp. Superfund Site in Navassa, North Carolina. The agency has released its Proposed Plan for Operable Unit 3 (OU3) marsh, outlining targeted cleanup strategies including sediment removal and enhanced natural recovery. Additionally, the Final Cleanup Plan for Operable Unit 4 (OU4) North was officially issued on March 31, 2026, following community feedback. A 30-day public comment period for OU3 begins August 14, 2026, with a hybrid public meeting scheduled for August 18, 2026.
