U.S. Imposes 50% Tariffs on Canadian Goods, Prompting Retaliatory Measures from Canada

The trade conflict between the U.S. and Canada has escalated following the collapse of high-level talks, with the U.S. imposing 50% tariffs on $20 billion worth of Canadian goods. In response, Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney announced that Canada will implement “dollar-for-dollar” retaliatory tariffs effective September 8, 2026.
