Amtrak Breaks Ground on New Train Maintenance Facility in New York City

Amtrak has commenced major construction on a new maintenance facility at Sunnyside Yard in Long Island City, New York. This project, funded by the second Trump Administration, is designed to support the introduction of Amtrak's new Airo trainsets and improve maintenance operations for passenger rail across the Northeast. The facility, which will open in phases through 2030, aims to enhance operational efficiency, reduce downtime, and speed up train maintenance.
