A federal appeals court has ruled that it is bound by a 2002 Supreme Court decision, which rejected restrictions on sexually explicit depictions of fictional children, to protect the in-home possession of AI-generated child sexual abuse material. Judges warned that rapidly advancing AI technology now creates images virtually indistinguishable from those depicting the abuse of real children, suggesting the Supreme Court may need to revisit its precedent.
