Congress Passes Continuing Resolution, Averting Government Shutdown and Funding Through December 11

Congress has passed a continuing resolution (CR) to extend federal government funding at current fiscal year 2026 levels through December 11, 2026, successfully averting a government shutdown. The bill, which President Donald Trump signed into law on September 2, also temporarily blocks a proposed Office of Management and Budget (OMB) rule that would have allowed political appointees to end grants for political reasons.
