Justice and Education Departments Sue Kansas City, Kansas Public Schools Over Parental Consent for Gender Transitions

The U.S. Departments of Justice and Education have filed a lawsuit against the Kansas City, Kansas Public Schools (KCKPS) district. The lawsuit aims to prevent the district from facilitating "secret gender transitions" for students without the knowledge or consent of their parents. The federal government alleges that KCKPS is violating the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) and the Protection of Pupil Rights Amendment (PPRA), which are federal laws designed to safeguard parental rights. Assistant Attorney General Harmeet Dhillon of the Justice Department's Civil Rights Division stated that parental rights are paramount in public schools and that the Department will not tolerate districts disregarding federal law in matters of gender ideology.
