Justice Department Sues Four Jurisdictions Over In-State Tuition for Undocumented Immigrants

The U.S. Department of Justice has filed lawsuits against Hawaii, Arkansas, Utah, and the District of Columbia, alleging that their laws providing in-state tuition rates or financial aid to undocumented immigrant students violate federal law and discriminate against U.S. citizens. These are the latest in a series of 25 similar complaints filed by the Trump administration, asserting that states cannot grant benefits to undocumented immigrants that are denied to American citizens.
