DOJ Announces Nationwide COVID-Era Loan Fraud Takedown Exceeding $245 Million
The U.S. Attorney's Office for the Western District of Michigan, in conjunction with the Department of Justice's Fraud Division, the Small Business Administration (SBA), and the SBA Office of Inspector General, announced a nationwide enforcement action targeting COVID-era loan fraud. This two-month surge resulted in actions against over 160 criminal defendants, including approximately 80 newly charged individuals, with an intended loss to American taxpayers of approximately $245 million.
