EPA Eliminates Greenhouse Gas Emission Requirements for Fossil Fuel Power Plants

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has eliminated requirements for fossil fuel power plants to install technical controls to curb their greenhouse gas emissions. This action, announced on Monday, also includes a proposal to permanently release the nation's largest industrial source of greenhouse gas emissions from federal oversight. This follows earlier rollbacks of climate standards for cars and trucks and is expected to significantly increase U.S. emissions, with the EPA estimating an additional 533 million metric tons of carbon dioxide by 2040 from the power plant repeal alone.
