DHS Announces First-Ever Removal of Alien Terrorist Using United States Alien Terrorist Removal Court

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) announced the removal of Nazira Haji Zada, a 47-year-old Afghan national, after she conceded to being an alien terrorist in the first case ever brought before the United States Alien Terrorist Removal Court (ATRC). Zada was removed following an August 20 order, unsealed today, for supporting an ISIS-inspired mass shooting plot on Election Day 2024. This marks the first operational use of the ATRC, which Congress established decades ago.
